Anatomopathology becomes a vanishing profession

Pathologists will soon fall into the "Red Book of specialties," the president assured the Russian Society of Pathologists, director of the Institute of Human Morphology Leo Kaktursky. According to him the difficulty of work, lack of prestige and high salaries lead to the fact that at present staffed by pathologists in the country is only 44%, says AMI-TASS reported.

Kaktursky calls to reduce the regulatory burden on a single pathologist, because now one person is working for the whole team. Particular pressure has, and public opinion on this specialty. Few people know that the in vivo morphological diagnosis of diseases of the material of biopsies is 70-80% of the time pathologist. And, taking into account the increasing number of cancers in the country, it is difficult to overestimate the importance of the profession.

President of the Russian Society of Pathologists is also notes the low number of postmortem autopsy of the deceased. As a result, health officials do not receive full and adequate information on the causes of mortality, the defects of clinical diagnosis. Incidentally, the last hiding the facts contributes to the subordination of pathologists, managers of medical institutions.

Increase the number of autopsies will help change the law. While sticking point is the law on burials and funerals, under which relatives of the deceased the right to refuse an autopsy. "These are often used by funeral directors wishing quickly to issue a funeral. The only way out - to set pathoanatomical review the list of medical expertise as independent forms of organization" - insisted Kaktursky.
