The DASH diet for high blood pressure relief

Studies have shown that the DASH diet can help lower your blood pressure (or tension) pressure. Do you know the DASH diet?

Let us assume that DASH is an acronym for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). Hypertension is commonly called "high pressure". This diet differs from traditional regimes in that it imposes no restrictions on the amount of food you can eat, but rather encouraged to increase the amount of vegetables, fruits and dairy products. The highest value of the daily quantities specified in the Canadian Food Guide gives you an idea of the quantities this diet promotes forward. Regarding fats, they must be consumed in moderation, not high.

Participants in dietary studies have allowed to eat only foods provided by the organizers. Different groups of people receiving different types of diets to follow. In one study, the group that enjoyed a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products, and at the same time took less saturated fat and total fat intake (compared to the average North U.S.), received the largest decrease in blood pressure compared with other groups under other schemes. This group followed the DASH diet.

What a lesson learned? There is a way to help lower blood pressure, simply by making wise food choices.

But remember that a change in dietary habits requires sustained commitment. Talk to your doctor about the DASH diet whether it is a good choice for you. Do not adjust your treatment for hypertension without consulting your doctor. And if you think you have high blood pressure, see your doctor.
