The dangers and accidents in the home for children:
Every day, 2,000 children 0-6 years old are victims of accidents everyday. In one year, an estimated nearly 740,000 the number of accidents of everyday life in this age group (1.7 million among children 0-15 years old) that require consultation with hospital emergencies. For young children between 0 and 4 years, within the home (domestic accident) is the principal place of accident. (2006 figures)
In 2002, 308 children aged 0-15 years died from an accident (HLAs) and among these deaths, 64% involved children under 4 years. Overall, these figures have been stable since 1999 when they recorded a steady decline since the early 19802.
The main causes of accidents:
80% of the accidents of everyday life for children 0-6 years occur during play activities and entertainment inside or outside the house. Falls are the most frequent, regardless of age: they represent 73% of the causes of accidents among children under 1-year and 55% among children aged 0-16 years.
In the latter, then accidents are caused by blows and collisions (18%), a crash (6%) and other causes: burning, choking, cutting, pinching, drowning, strangulation (16%).
Prevention is better than cure, attention to household hazards.
Learn to avoid accidents in the home of the child. An accident can happen quickly. So, to avoid large and small sores while leaving the child flourish, there are solutions:
Monitor your child: he is not aware of the risks he takes.
You can help make progress in growing and accompany him in his discovery of the world. Your child should always be supervised by an adult.
Do not leave the custody of another child.
Explain the dangers to your child, make him understand, clearly and age-appropriate, the risks it faces and how to avoid them.
Follow the advice of professionals: ask your doctor, a pediatric nurse or pharmacist any questions concerning your child.
